Pregnant Pooch Found Sick And Starving Finds Forever Home In Time For Christmas

A heavily pregnant golden retriever found sick and starving after being dumped in a field has been found a loving home in time for Christmas.

Amber’s eight new puppies now also have families thanks to a caring charity.

She was brought home by Elly Griffith, 38, and welcomed with open arms by her husband Adam, 42, and their kids, six and nine, in Witney, Oxfordshire. Elly said: “We fell in love. She’s so calm, sweet, and relaxed.

“I don’t know how but she is so good with people despite the horrible neglect she has had. She welcomed us straight away.”

Amber, thought to have been used for backyard breeding, was found by a member of the public in March running terrified around a field in High Wycombe, Bucks.

Eventually caught and taken to a vet, the four-year-old had sarcoptic mange and bled from scratching herself.

Skinny apart from her bulging tum, it is believed she was discarded as her owners knew they would need a vet to deliver her litter.

With Amber weak and stressed, staff fed pups Theodore, Cider, Dougal, Kasper, Winnie, Holly, Sasha and Bailey.

Once treated she was taken to the Blue Cross pet charity’s centre in Burford, Oxon.

Earlier this year, we also reported on a huge and lovable dog has found a forever home after spending most of his life in a rescue centre. The 60kg mastiff has always struggled to find an owner because of his massive size, but finally his big heart won somebody over.

Two-year-old Basher was rescued as a small stray in January 2020 – but quickly grew to be an impressive 6ft when standing on his hind legs.

The human-sized pooch has since been living in RSPCA Cornwall kennels, until his new owner picked him up this month.

The RSPCA animal welfare team shared the news on Twitter, writing: “We said the fondest of farewells to our big boy Basher recently as he’s set off for his new home.

“We’re so grateful to Basher’s owner for taking him on, we know you’ll be so happy together.”

It will be second time lucky for the gigantic 9st 4lb hound, who was adopted for a short period of time last November – but his owner couldn’t cope and returned him.

This time round, Basher will have seven acres to play in, which is perfect for him as he “gets a bit excited around birds”.
