Skipper, a Border collie and Australian shepherd mix was born four days ago in an Oklahoma veterinary hospital. Skipper is a very unique dog, as she was born with six legs and two tails!
As reported by the Neel Veterinary Hospital, Skipper is the first known puppy with six legs to change state alive. “She has survived longer than we suspect the other canine has (at just 4 days old – published research doesn’t indicate one has been born alive) together with her combination of congenital conditions. you would possibly notice she looks a touch different – 6 legs.”
Dr. Alison Everett diagnosed Skipper with congenital conjoining disorders called monocephalus dipygus and moncephalus rachipagus dibrachius tetrapus, which means that she has one thoracic cavity , one head, two pelvic regions, two reproductive systems and two lower urinary tracts.Example Ad #2 (only visible for logged-in visitors)
Thankfully Skipper is pretty healthy, her organs are in her very good shape and is almost like a normal puppy. She is able to move all of her legs. It is likely that Skipper will need physiotherapy and assistance with mobility as she gets older. The vets will keep her under control, research further her conditions and try to keep her pain free. Skipper is a miracle!
