“Thank you for being this dog’s Knight in shining armor!”
When Deputy Sheriff Josh Fiorelli became a viral, it wasn’t the attention the Florida County Sheriff used to get.

Carlos Irizzy of Kissimee was out of his usual walk that day when he spotted something unusual on the side of the road. The officer sat in the grass, gently caressing and whispering words of safety with something hidden under his jacket.
As he approached, Carlos could see that the officer was actually consoling a white dog, who had been left on the side of the road in a very recent hit-and-run accident.

When he was asked why he plopped down on the grass and sat down next to the poor little girl, Deputy Fiorelli told WFTV that:
“It was cold out. She was wet. She didn’t have anyone there so I decided to be that person.”
He didn’t really know that anyone was watching or even photographing him while comforting the dog, who was later given the name Fiona.
“I know a lot of dogs become defensive when they get hurt. She was not defensive at all. She was acceptive of me trying to pet her and take care of her.”

Deputy Fiorelli did not know it at the time, but Fiona suffered horrific injuries, including a dislocated hind leg, front leg injuries and a pelvic fracture
Having him there must have been given by God for a poor little girl who had to be so alone and hurt so much!
Fiona did not have a collar or a microchip, so the animal shelter in Osceola County, where she is being cared for due to her injuries, could not trace her owner.
Of course, she could have been one of the hundreds of wanderers who roam the streets every year. But that doesn’t mean the puppy didn’t deserve a lot of love and attention!
Deputy Fiorelli hopes Fiona will be able to find her at home forever. More importantly, she wants her new owner and all dog owners to really think about giving their furry baby a dog collar or microchip.
“Keep an eye on them. They may only be a part of your life, but you’re their whole life.”

Social media reacted quickly, as usual, to this story of police officers with feelings of good as soon as they realized it.
One Facebook user gushed:
“Thank you Deputy Fiorelli for doing the job which you are so obviously meant to do. Such a kind and caring person, not everyone would show such compassion for an animal that was hurt. You are a credit to your profession and uniform, a great example of a great police officer. God bless you.”
Another user praised Fiorelli for his big old heart:
“Thank you deputy!! You are a special man!!”

In a world that sometimes abounds with stories of bad cops, the actions of Deputy Sheriff Fiorelli have helped turn the balance in favor of all the good cops there who deserve to be recognized for their under-reported acts of kindness.
