‘Broken’ Dog Has The Biggest Smile On His Face When He Realizes He’s Being Rescued

Sanford was formerly characterized as a “broken dog” with sad grins until he met Karen Velazquez, his foster mom, who rescued him and gave him a chance at life. When he learned he had been rescued and was safe, the poor puppy couldn’t stop smiling.

After being hit by a car and rendered unable to walk, he was rescued by animal control in April. In addition, the officer discovered a gunshot wound in his right rear leg. They whisked him away to a modest municipal shelter in Dallas, Texas. Unfortunately, the shelter lacked funding, so Sanford was unable to obtain the medical attention he required at the time. He was both physically and psychologically shattered.

Thankfully, a volunteer of Dallas DogRRR, a local dog rescue group, saved Sanford from the shelter. But the biggest change happened when Sanford was placed into Velazquez’s care.

“He was physically shattered… “And when the volunteer went to meet him, he didn’t really make any attempt to come and say hello,” Dallas DogRRR executive director Kerry Anechiarico told The Dodo. “It’s almost as if he’d given up and was just waiting for his moment.”

“I am presently on my 52nd foster, and I can genuinely say that I’ve never had anyone as jovial as him,” Velazquez told The Dodo.“He looks at me in a way that no other animal or human has ever looked at me, including my own pets. Essentially, the only time he is not smiling is when he is asleep or eating.”

Sanford has been beaming since moving into Velazquez’s home. He appeared to be aware that he was in a secure environment surrounded by caring individuals. Sanford is doing well in his foster home and is eagerly waiting for someone to love and adopt him.

“He’ll be an excellent family dog,” Anechiarico said. “He’ll get along with other dogs and people.” He’s even good with children.”

“He’s the ideal companion dog to come home to,” Anechiarico remarked. “He’ll wag his tail and greet you, and then he’ll keep you company for the rest of the day.” He’s now just a happy-go-lucky dog.”

Despite all that has transpired, he remains polite and sweet. He now has a constant smile on his face and is in a loving foster home where he is adored and cared for. We are hopeful that Sanford will be adopted soon and get the permanent home he deserves.
