Imagine having maggots in your nose, being unable to urinate, and having excrement all over your thick fur coat. According to ilovemydogsomuch.com, that’s precisely how a four-year-old Great Pyrenees dog lived before authorities interfered.
The Putnam County Dog Control officer discovered the animal wandering free in the Hudson Valley area of New York, as he had done many times before. He drove to Carmel Animal Hospital for help because the dog was in such a bad condition of neglect.
Large, thick mats formed throughout the dog’s fur, obstructing the dog’s ability to pass pee. His nails were quite long and curled inwards towards his paws. Due to the filthy circumstances in which it resided, maggots started crawling out of his nose area.
As a consequence, Omer Fahim, 30, was arrested for animal abuse and neglect by Putnam County SPCA investigators.
The dog was treated, groomed, and receiving veterinary care. He will be placed with a Great Pyrenees rescue group once his vet care is completed.
We are grateful for the officer who stepped up to help this animal in need.
