METH-ADDICTED PUPPY SAVED FROM DITCH REFUSES TO GIVE UP

Zorro is just 6 months old, yet he has already been through a lifetime of agony. The dog was taken to Horizon Animal Hospital by the Bixby Police Department after being discovered in a ditch, says reshareworthy.

They think Zorro was kept at a residence where crystal meth was manufactured since he has chemical burns on half of his body and was enduring withdrawal symptoms from his addiction to the horrible substance.

According to his rescuers, Zorro was suffering from “aches, pains, hallucinations, tremors, and sobbing.” Zorro most likely received the chemical burns from inhaling the medicine, which then soaked through his skin, leaving the burns and red markings.

“He is severely thin and can’t feed because of burns on his tongue,” Horizon Animal Hospital’s Joleen Wiggam Hansen stated on Facebook. They also suspect he has burns on his digestive tract.

Despite his dire circumstances, the vet facility, which also operates a licensed animal rescue charity, Horizon Animal Heroes, was determined to save him.

Zorro was not humanely terminated, according to Joleen, since he was not ready to give up. “I guarantee you, we would never, ever keep him alive if we didn’t think he’d make a full recovery,” she added. “But HE is eager to fight, so why would we not assist him FIGHT!”

The initial issue was to bring his body temperature to normal. They gave him a blood transfusion, warmed him with a heating pad, and gave him nourishment through IV.

They also removed the drug residue from his fur (the purple on his fur is from “purple meth”).

And they let him rest and sleep.

Although he is not yet out of danger, Zorro’s rescuers delivered some good news with him after a night in the hospital. Zorro can urinate and urinate, which is a relief given the internal damage caused by the chemicals. “This is fantastic because it implies his insides are working again,” Joleen explained.

He is still quite weak, but he is receiving rest and his progress is being monitored on a daily basis.

“If you’ve ever seen a dog or cat come out of a situation and thrive with a family that cherishes and loves them as they should be loved, you’ll understand why we won’t put animals to death because of a momentary setback in their lives,” she says. “Animals are incredible, powerful beings that simply want to be loved and appreciated.”

Feb. 13, 2022 Story Update

Sad news to share. Zorro has passed away. Dr. Cari McDonald shared the following news: “It is with a heavy heart and many tears that I must let everyone know that our little hero, Zorro, crossed quietly over Rainbow Bridge a little after 11 last night. He was peaceful and warm with all the prayers, love and support surrounding him in plush blankets and stuffed animals that everyone so generously donated. While I am deeply saddened that his journey on this earth has passed, I am comforted by the fact that this little guy knew what it was like to be held and loved in his short life.”

Zorro, may you rest in peace.
