Dogs should not be kept in animal shelters for lengthy periods of time. While we are glad that these dogs have a place to sleep and eat, being at a shelter can be quite stressful. It is quite noisy, with constant barking. The kennels are typically run-down. A shelter may be a frightening environment for a dog that has come from a household.
Carson, a loving Pit Bull, found himself on his own in a shelter. His family decided they’d had enough of him and relinquished him. He had allergies that caused skin problems, but he was a wonderful dog. Understandably, the shelter environment was too much for him. He was lying in a corner, shaking wildly. He didn’t even stop for a rest. Everyone’s hearts shattered as he trembled so violently.
Carson was discovered by a rescue group called Philly Bully Team, and a volunteer named Lauren chose to sign him out of the shelter and bring him home. Carson, she understood, wanted to feel protected, which he would never get at a shelter.
Carson praised his savior right away by never leaving her side. Carson followed Lauren everywhere she went. They were made for each other. Lauren saw that this puppy need constant reassurance, and she provided it.
Lauren saw their compatibility and informed the rescue organization that she wanted to finalize the adoption. They concurred! Carson is so happy to be with Lauren that he won’t let her go anywhere without him following her around. Except when she needs to get things done, it’s incredibly adorable. Working from home is appealing! A 60-pound dog on your lap can be inconvenient. Lauren, on the other hand, is such a good sport!
Besides snuggling, Carson’s favorite thing to do is go for walks and seek out the best sticks. He loves to walk around with a stick in his mouth. As Lauren says, “his whole body wags.” To see a dog go from shaking and scared, to a happy boy, is so heartwarming.
Carson bounces on the couch when he gets home from his walks and offers the sweetest tail wags. All you can hear is his joyous tail thumping. “His objective in life is to cuddle on the sofa with me,” his mother, Lauren, says in the video below. Carson appears to have his priorities straight!
It is a win every time a dog is rescued from a shelter and adopted. Many people are overwhelmed by numbers, but we can assure you that each precious life is important. That is why it is so vital to share tales like Carson’s. Too many people look for pups from breeders while perfectly good animals wait for their forever homes. It’s not acceptable!
