A surprise patron entered Gerardo Ortiz’s eatery almost five years ago. It was a stray dog with a hungry expression on her face. But it didn’t take long for additional ravenous buddies to stop by Ajilalo as well. Before Gerardo realized it, the news that he was feeding stray puppies had reached every corner of the neighborhood.

With that first arrival, more dogs started to show up, and Gerardo fed them all a delectable dinner as a welcome.

Nowadays, numerous stray dogs stop by Ajilalo’s doors every evening to receive a free food.

Most of these canines are Gerardo’s regular “clients,” while some are frequently also first-timers who come in the hopes that his delicious meal will satisfy their stomachs.

Gerardo frequently notices a new dog’s face and the storefront while he is at his restaurant, waiting to see if the reports about his kindness are real.

They compensate us not with cash but rather with their joy and wagging tails.

They are quite appreciative, and we prefer to give than to receive. I’ve loved animals ever since I was a young child. My mother instilled in us the value of helping both people and animals. I’m inspired by her.
