British Gear Head’s Shocking Experience: Falling for the Largest Collection of Counterfeit Cars

A modified Chevrolet C3 Corvette with a split rear-window

Hard’s tale begins by describing how he learned about a unique Corvette for sale. It’s a one-off C3, reportedly built by Chevrolet for Irene Rauch, a supposedly noteworthy Hollywood actress. But, Hard’s skepticism gets backed up by few available details about Rauch, and a dive into IMDB reveals only a handful of movie credits that don’t begin until the 1980s.

A look at this silver Corvette leaves enthusiasts puzzled. It’s clearly part of the C3 generation, which Chevy built from 1967 to 1982, but the rear window is a head-scratcher. The split-window design only came on factory C2 cars in 1963.

Also adding to the car’s character is a multi-scoop hood and a turbocharger bolted onto the engine. Hard remarks that paperwork backs up this Corvette’s credentials, but his doubts are apparent. Also, the Carroll Shelby stickers on the back do little to persuade Hard otherwise.

Drooling Over A Jaguar D-Type

A replica Jaguar D-Type in green

Hard’s excitement for a Jaguar D-Type is hard to contain. He knows it’s a replica, but the carefully constructed body does a good job mimicking the original Jaguar built from 1954 to 1957 for racing.

Interestingly, this pseudo-Jag has a title as a 1959 model, despite it having a chassis from a TVR Cerbera. At least the power is authentic, as a Jaguar straight-six sits under the hood. Hard calls this D-Type tribute vehicle the holy grail of the collection
