Brian Waldrop, the Stream Team Coordinator at the Missouri Department of Conservation, and his colleagues from Beyond Housing and Tiered Community Teams were scouting locations for a clean-up event when they stumbled upon an unexpected discovery.

The cleanup team saves a puppy thrown away in a landfill

As the team was sorting through a pile of trash, they noticed a large black trash bag moving on top of the garbage. Intrigued, Brian decided to investigate further. When he opened the bag, he was shocked to find a small puppy trapped inside, surrounded by bottles and wrappers.

“It’s a happy ending story or at least a happy beginning story. He was found in a black trash bag in a pile of trash,” Brian told FOX 2 St. Louis, his voice heavy with emotion. The team was devastated to learn that the puppy had been cruelly abandoned by his previous owners.

Abandoned Pup Discovers Kindness in Unexpected Place

Without hesitation, Brian made the decision to give the puppy a forever home. He took the little dog, now named Dude, back to his house and gave him a much-needed bath. “When I got him home and washed him, he magically turned white,” Brian recalled, marveling at the transformation.
