Miracle Dog Fell Off 165Ft Cliff And Patiently ‘Perched’ On Ledge For Epic Rescue

A miracle dog has been reunited with her delighted owner after she fell of a 165ft cliff edge while out on a walk. Bonnie the one-year-old shih tzu plunged down the rugged cliff face in Essex on Monday, and could have easily tumbled to her death.

But the lucky pup survived and was amazingly spotted patiently ‘perched’ on the rocks, waiting to be rescued. Crews from Essex Fire and Rescue Service team were called to the cliffs at 1.46pm where they then used ropes to abseil down to Bonnie. The fluffy pooch was sat 32ft below the top of the ridge and was finally reached at around 3pm.

Bonnie was then returned to her thankful owner, who gave her a huge hug and felt relieved to have her back in one piece.

The pair had been on a walk near the seaside town of Walton-on-the-Naze, but Bonnie slipped and fell from the steep ridge while off her leash.

Speaking about the incident, station manager Nick Singleton said dog owners should keep their pets on leads in the future.

“We are so pleased that Bonnie has been rescued safe and sound,” he said.

“Our USAR team did a great job at rescuing her from the precarious position she got herself into.

“We would like to take this opportunity to remind dog owners of the dangers of having dogs off their lead near to cliffs like these.

“We would really recommend you keep your dog on their lead and well away from anywhere they could easily fall or get into danger.”

Another lucky dog has been reunited with his beloved owner after surviving a 100ft fall over the edge of a cliff.

Yogi the spaniel fell while on a walk last week and suffered serious injuries from head to toe – but still lived to tell the tale.

His owner, Emily Linehan, immediately dialled 999 and asked for the Coastguard who alerted a water crew to Yogi’s fall.

Torbay Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) volunteers spotted the wet, cold and severely injured pooch at the base of the rock face.

Crew member Jack Hawkett was put ashore and gently coaxed the frightened dog out from the cliffs. He carried him on board the lifeboat to Emily who was waiting on the shore.

Emily said: “I’m so grateful to the crew. There are no words for how I feel right now.

“I’m so impressed with how kind everyone was – all the crew were amazing. Yogi wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the RNLI.”
