When rescuers with Animal Aid Unlimited in India came across a dog laying on the side of the road, they sensed something was wrong.

Street dogs are a common sight to them, but they could tell this dog was injured. He needed help.

The poor thing was laying on the side of the road, completely still. It seems he’d been hit by a car and was left there – helpless and unable to move. He couldn’t even lift his head!

Rescuers rushed the dog, who they named Batani, into treatment and immediately got him onto a pain medication. During the exam, they discovered that Batani was suffering from a spinal injury.

Things weren’t looking good for Batani, but the rescuers were determined to give him his best chance at recovering. They began a treatment plan, which included feeding the poor pup by hand because he physically couldn’t lift his own head.

As time went on, Batani began therapy and he slowly gained enough strength to lift his head and eat food on his own. Then, he began to move a little bit more of his body and the rescue team felt he was strong enough to go outside and interact with other dogs.

One day, he tried to get up and stand! His legs were wobbly, but the determination was there. You could see it in his eyes, Batani was going to walk again or he was going to die trying.

Progress was slow but incredible. After more therapy and plenty of rest, Batani gained enough strength to actually stand up and even took a few uncertain steps. The medical team was pleased with his progress and he kept defying the odds!

Now, he’s like an entirely new dog. Batani not only learned to stand and walk again, but he even learned how to run and play!

He loves chasing the other dogs around and you’d never know that he was bed-bound and unable to move.
