A pup is fortunate to be alive after a Good Samaritan heard his faint barks in the woods and went to investigate. Kaleigh Wetrich was walking with a buddy on a Sunday via the woods after having visited a nearby apartment in Oak Cliff, Texas.

When she went to investigate after hearing a faint bark, she discovered a Boxer mix being held to a tree by a yard hose. The pup could only stand or lay down in between each tree since the hose was wrapped around his head and tied between two branches. The small dog was left on a deserted lot with no food or drink nearby and only the leaves for shade. When Kaleigh approached him, he growled at her as if to let her know he was there despite being starving and barely able to stand.

Following an urgent Facebook message from Kaleigh to Apollo Support & Rescue, volunteer Steve Basham arrived and was led to the dog by Kaleigh. When he saw them, the dog barked and leaped up as high as he could. The puppy appeared to have been abandoned without food or water for at least a week.

Steve said they got to the six to eight-month-old canine just in time, as his organs were beginning to close down. Kaleigh said she cried all night after finding Lucky. She informed KDFW Fox 4, “I can not just leave a living creature to die like that.”

Fortunate was taken right away to the veterinary facility, where he underwent examinations. He had terrible flea and hookworm infestations, and he was very anemic. Additionally, his blood platelet count was so low that veterinarians thought about giving him a blood transfusion. Despite Lucky’s frail health, his rescuers are hoping he would recover completely so they can find him a loving home.

Lucky’s fosterer (and rescuer) Steve Basham shared this information about Lucky’s progress a few days after his rescue, which happened in August.

Danielle, founder of Apollo Rescue, claimed, “This is the first time Fortunate was not scared since we saved him. He is learning to count on people once again. Dogs are so forgiving. Thank you everyone for the pouring in support.”

A couple of weeks later on, veterinarians claim Lucky is getting better. His platelets are still low however much better. He’s also got one more round of dewormer to finish off the hook worms. He also got 7 pounds weight.

Fortunate is doing better and likes playing fetch! In early September he went to his new foster home. Lucky’s rescuer Steve Basham composed, “He loves it and has a huge yard and even a brand-new buddy named Sapphire. He will be receiving even more one on one training and attention that he so deserves after such an ordeal. I could not be better for him! He has an awesome brand-new foster family.”

” It was not an easy thing to do. But it was the best thing for him. He has to learn to trust other people besides simply me and this family is willing to deal with his current issues to assist him to do that. It was a perfect match for him.”
