The pictures are tough to look at.
The pup was skin and bones when he wandered into a Watertown, Massachusetts, Home Depot store around 6 a.m. on June 4 — but that’s not all. The emaciated pooch has numerous lesions on his body, possible cigarette burns, and each ear has a small notch cut into it.
The Watertown Police Department, who posted information about and pictures of the pit bull on Facebook on Monday, is asking for the public’s help in identifying his owner.
“He weighs in at 26 pounds which is less than half of what a healthy weight would be for this breed,” the post says. “The dog is very friendly and is being called ‘Sully Doe’ until we can properly ID him.”
Anyone who recognizes this dog or has information that could identify the owner, is encouraged to contact Watertown Animal Control officer Karen O’Reilly at 617-972-6446.
Sully Doe’s sad appearance has touched many on Facebook, who shared the photos over 18,000 times by Wednesday.
“Thank you to all the good hearts that helped this poor dog,” wrote one commenter named Barb Sprinkel. “Thank you to the people at the Home Depot that took the time to get this dog to where he could get help and not just chase him away. Thank you Watertown Police Department! Sincerely.”
