Ryan Jessen’s family posted the video of his beloved pet wishing his owner farewell to Facebook – praising hospital staff for allowing the dog to make the visit.
The video, taken on October 30, shows the dog tentatively sniffing his owner’s face, despite Ryan’s medical equipment partially covering his upper half.
Michelle Jessen posted the video and said: “The hospital did the sweetest thing for us and allowed us to bring my brother’s dog in to ‘say goodbye’ so she’d know why her human never came home.”
She explained that her brother was devoted to the pooch, named Mollie, and added: “If you knew my brother, he really loved his sweet dog.
“So many people have asked – He thought he had a migraine, but it was a ventricular brain haemorrhage.”
“THANK YOU to everybody for the outpouring of support, but I won’t be responding anymore. We are sincerely touched and humbled by others’ stories, their sharing in our sadness and the kindness of so many people.”
To those who were worried about what would happen to Ryan’s dog now his owner had passed away, Michelle added: “Don’t worry about the dog! We’re keeping her!!! She’s part of the family.”
The video has had 9.1 million views of Facebook so far, as well as 64,000 likes, 27,000 comments and 87,000 shares.
Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is a bleeding into the brain’s ventricular system.
It can result from physical trauma or from hemorrhaging in stroke.
In this case medical professionals think Ryan’s condition was potentially caused by his consumption of energy drinks.
Michelle said: “They think it was brought on by high blood pressure, and there’s speculation that his frequent consumption of energy drinks may have contributed.”
Outpourings of sympathy flooded in on the social media site.
One Facebook user wrote: “Very sorry for your loss. May he RIP. I hope she knows that she is still loved.”
Another said: “Oh no, so sad! I am so sorry for your loss. If I were to leave this earth, I’d want the same for my dog. I’m sure your son knows.”
