“I cried with tears of happiness,” said Karla Crane, a worker at the 5As animal shelter, about the adoption of the Wiggles.

A puppy who spent more than a decade at a shelter in Godfrey, Illinois, shelter has found her forever home.

Wiggles, who spent on the brink of 11 years at the 5As animal shelter after she arriving at the rescue at age 3, was adopted by a few from Lake St. Louis, Missouri, multiple outlets report.

According to WZZM 13, Wiggles ’original owners brought her to the shelter in May 2010 because they allegedly did not want to keep a dog that has allergies.

A 12-year-old dog also developed a melon-sized tumor in 2016 that a veterinarian could not operate on, given the puppies ’age, making it even more difficult for the shelter to search for an adoptive family for Wiggles.

One longtime shelter worker, a retired nurse named Karla Crane, told Riverbender.com that the pit bull mixture was recently adopted by a few who “had dogs who gave up the spirit with cancer and thought it was time to adopt it again.

“They have an enormous fenced-in yard and a pleasant neighborhood. They came in Sunday afternoon. This seems perfect for Wiggles,” she said.

Crane shared that along side finally giving Wiggles a forever home, the “adorable” couple “also gave a $300 donation to the 5As.”

“I cried tears of happiness over her adoption,” she added, also revealing that the new Wiggles owners were examining her tumor with another vet.

It was hard for Crane not to see Wiggles as part of the shelter, but she’s glad the dog is “doing well” in her new permanent home.

“Wiggles is still trying to figure out what’s going on, but they’re ready to walk her in the neighborhood with a leash without a problem,” she told Riverbender.com. “They said Wiggles doesn’t bark at other dogs when she walks with them.”
