5-month-old Nora Hall had a massive stroke that left her with serious brain impairment, according to ilovemydogsomuch.com.

It was later discovered that she had pulmonary hypertension from birth. She didn’t have much time left. For the following three weeks, she was put into a medically induced coma.

Nora had won the hearts of her two Basset Hounds, Gracie and Grumpy, in just five months. “Gracie, in particular,” Mary Hall told ABC News, “took on the role of second mother.” “Gracie would hurry to check what was wrong whenever Nora cried.” She was constantly there for Nora, caressing her and checking on her.”

The Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis asked the family if they had any final requests as they prepared to say goodbye to Nora. “Yes,” responded Nora’s parents enthusiastically. They wanted to know whether their two dogs could bid their newborn girl farewell.

“I said, ‘We’d really appreciate it if you could allow us have our dogs at the hospital,’” Hall added. “I didn’t want to go home and have them searching for her, not knowing where she had gone.” They lowered the bed to allow the dogs to lie with her, and Gracie rushed up and licked her.”

“It was really nice,” Mary said. “It brought us a lot of comfort.”

Gracie and Grumpy continue to comfort their family each and every day. Rest in peace, sweet Nora.
