Life cannot be easy for the millions of dogs that are homeless and living on the streets, says moneysavingbasics.

Finding food, water, and shelter is difficult enough, but for injured animals, the future is frequently dismal.

Poppy was spotted dragging her rear legs along the road when she was a small puppy.

Nobody knows how this poor pup’s spine was crushed but this painful injury meant she couldn’t move her back legs.

She suffered alone in a remote area until she found herself near an animal sanctuary where workers rushed to her aid.

Susanne Vogel and her colleagues were working at an elephant study site in Botswana, southern Africa, when they discovered the injured puppy.

Susanne, an animal enthusiast, picked up the unfortunate creature and drove her to the nearest veterinarian, which was eight hours away.

According to a GoFundMe page put up to assist collect cash for Poppy’s care, everyone was shocked that she had survived given the cattle and predators in the area.
“She has the most wonderful spirit.” “We brought her to the nearest veterinary facility, which was an 8-hour journey on bad roads with a ferry crossing across the Okavango River,” fundraiser coordinator Amanda Stronza noted.

She was kept under veterinary care until she recovered since surgery was deemed too hazardous for a fragile dog.

Poppy was pleased at the Greenside Animal Hospital, a great facility in Johannesburg, South Africa, according to an update on her GoFundMe website, which generated over $10,000 for her care.

She can stand on her own.
Her X-rays revealed that her spine had been entirely severed, and surgery would simply cause her extra anguish while doing little to heal her spine.

Doctors anticipate that “continuous physiotherapy will help Poppy develop further and regain strength and maybe even some capacity to stand on her own,” according to Amanda.

“Poppy will also get her own beautiful cart, or wheelchair, shortly to assist her run about and chase squirrels,” she said.

A forever home in Washington DC had been secured for her, and staff were working with a travel firm to send her there.
