Meet Petey, the dog that was abandoned with his sibling in a park because he was different. While taking her kid home from school, a mom from Sacramento, California, noticed the dogs and hurried them to the vet. They were hungry, sluggish, and as frigid as ice. Petey’s brother died shortly after arriving at the facility, but Petey determined to fight for his life.
The puppy’s inability to move correctly alerted the veterinarians to the fact that something was amiss. Petey was discovered to have cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological disease in which the cerebellum is not fully grown.
“This can occur due to genetic causes or infections in the mother during development,” Dr. Laurie Siperstein-Cook, a veterinarian at the Sacramento SPCA, told The Dodo. “The signs include head bobbing, clumsiness and falling.”
Petey, on the other hand, is still a lively dog: “He’s exuberant, curious, and goofy,” said Westphal-Thomson, Petey’s foster mom. “He’s also quite self-assured and likes meeting new people…”
He learnt to feed on his own and enjoys cuddling and running about. The abandoned dog was quickly adopted by a loving couple who cherish him and would never forsake him since he is unique.
