Nobody anticipated Sadie to return to the sanctuary when she left in 2014. She did, nevertheless, return last month when her family surrendered her. When Sadie and her littermates arrived at the Harris Region Animal Sanctuary in Texas, they were only a few months old. The staff had taken a picture of Sadie, and a family immediately accepted the small puppy. However, Sadie had not found the forever family she had been hoping for.
Ashley Roberts, a Harris County Pet Sanctuary worker, was present when Sadie’s family surrendered her last month. Roberts informed The Dodo,” [Sadie] was in a small ball.” “To be honest, I assumed she was a stray who had actually been discovered, which was why she was so frightened. She didn’t even seem to be at ease with the people she was with.”
” They mentioned something along the lines of [Hurricane] Harvey and said, ‘We believed we were going to keep her,’” Roberts included. “But they really did not appear sorry that they were sending her back to the shelter.” Sadie’s young puppy photo showed up when a staff member scanned her microchip and looked up her information on their systems.
” [The employee] almost burst into tears,” Roberts added. “He could not also function when he saw her original picture and her return now … being surrendered back to a kill sanctuary. It was a sharp contrast in between her confident young puppy picture and the dog we saw before us. He was almost in tears. I was already in tears.”.
The following week, another family came close to the shelter and begged to adopt Sadie. Everyone was overjoyed at first, thinking Sadie’s bad luck had come to an end. Nevertheless, Sadie’s new family also returned her a week later. “I had not been there the 2nd time she was given up, but [the brand-new family] reported that she kept having accidents in the house,” Roberts explained. “What we believe happened was that she was so frightened that she peed nervously.”.
After that, the crew posted pictures of Sadie on Facebook in the hope that she would find a better, more long-term home right away. Soon after, a young woman got in touch with the rescue center and offered to foster Sadie with the goal of adopting her.
” We strive to do adoption and foster therapy so that these pets and people have a higher possibility of success with the fostering,” Roberts discussed. “And we expressly stated,’ [Sadie] doesn’t need to be around any other dogs for at least a week– just provide her some space and give her some time to mellow out– she’s gone through so much.’” According to Roberts, the young woman did not listen for some reason.
” She appeared to be well-intentioned, and we assumed it would certainly work out,” Roberts added. “So she took her home and said, ‘Oh, she’s doing so well.’ ‘Bring your dog over,’ she instructed her sis. As a result, her sister brings her dog over, and it attacks Sadie.” Sadie’s neck was covered in bite injuries when she was sent to the Harris County Animal Shelter for the 4th time.
” It’s all been poor luck,” Roberts added. “I have actually never ever seen a dog that has been returned so many times.” To assist Sadie in coming back on track, the shelter staff arranged for her to be placed in a foster home with Down South Rescue.
” Sadie is with an experienced foster and she is working with her,” Down South Rescue supervisor Sharon Fanning informed The Dodo. “She is still frightened and distrustful of others. She has, nevertheless, developed a strong attachment to her foster mother. It will take some time for her to recover both psychologically and literally. And we will certainly be extremely selective in that we enable to adopt her.” Sadie will certainly not be available for fostering right now, but when she is, Roberts hopes she gets the best home feasible.
