The Homeward Trails animal shelter in the District of Columbia rescued over 4,000 beagle puppies from the Envigo facility in Cumberland, where they were being bred to be so.ld to laboratories for testing.
Since the first group of dogs was rescued from the Envigo breeding facility on July 21, WJLA has been following their progress closely. In May, the facility was also forced to close due to [al.le.ged vio.la.tions] of the Animal Welfare Act.
ProMedica Skilled Nursing contacted out and inquired as to whether any freshly rescued puppies could be able to visit the nursing home in order to bring some puppies to visit their residents and provide them joy. Six-week-old beagles saved from a breeding facility visited elderly residents of a nursing home in Fairfax County, Virginia, on Wednesday. The elderly residents were ecstatic!
“We had a terrier, and it was a pleasure to see a puppy again,” said Carol Brashares, a nursing home resident. “Puppies are my favorite!”
The good news is that adoptions of puppies have finally increased. It’s hard to fathom what they went through in the hatchery, but it’s all over now!
The young animals are still adjusting to life in general. They are learning how to create and share their enjoyment!
