Rescue tales have a way of grabbing our hearts and not letting go. Another of those tales, but you’ll adore the conclusion of this one. Please be sure to watch the entire video; have fun!
Aliki and Walter, newlyweds from Canada, were in Greece for their honeymoon when they came upon a horror they never expected to see: a dog with only a few weeks to live that was being eaten alive by parasites. He was a homeless man who was deteriorating to nothing more than flesh and bone in a little town.
It was obvious the dog needed assistance as he approached the driver’s window as they were moving down the street. He was very afraid and cowered when the duo first saw him, maybe as a result of the earlier mistreatment by strangers. He was very afraid and cowered a lot when the couple first encountered him, maybe as a result of his previous encounters with others who had not been “especially kind” to him. But his small tail, which he kept between his legs, wagged joyfully, despite his terrible state. He was pleased to find people who were considerate enough to give him any attention.
Inspired by Greek Animal Rescue and Diasozo, the couple made the decision to assist this miserable, lonely dog. They admitted that there was something about him that made them feel obligated to help him and that they knew they couldn’t leave him behind. He was removed from the street by rescuers, who also gave him a food can, which he consumed in a few nibbles. Then, he was sent to the clinic, where he underwent mange treatment and an examination for intestinal parasites.
The doctors predicted that he would have died within weeks if he had continued to live on the streets. But happily, he was saved in time, and he was already making a full recovery.
After 5 months of therapy and care, Nelson’s hair had fully grown back, and he looked like a brand-new dog. His transformation was dramatic on a physical and psychological level. He had rediscovered the ability to trust, and he was giggling and waggling his tail nonstop.
When he had fully recovered, he took a flight to Canada to reconnect with the two people who had saved his life. When they took him in, they were astounded by his transformation. Nelson is a gorgeous puppy, and it’s amazing to think about how far he’s gone because to these recent newlyweds!
