The stray Solo has spent his entire life wandering the streets of Los Angeles.
Around the age of 11, he finally got too old and ill to continue running through the streets with the other dogs. He was thus compelled to wait for help on a woman’s porch.
The elderly dog was living alone on the woman’s porch when she discovered him, so she gave him the name Solovino, which means “he arrived alone” in Spanish and also suggests “he lived alone.”
Solo continued to reside on the woman’s doorway after a few days, so she phoned the Rocket Dog Rescue. He was flown to San Francisco by the rescue center after they decided to adopt him.
Solo spent the following year and a half in a foster family after being quickly placed there. Several times he was adopted out, but each time he was brought back.
Until Carol Messina stumbled across the lovely puppy’s image online one day, no one could seem to figure out why he wouldn’t stop crying.
Messina, Solo’s new mother, was reported by The Dodo as stating, “As soon as I saw his face on their site, I wanted to love him.” Since I have a cat with the same name as him and am a great “Star Wars” fan, when I saw that he went by the name Solovino, I immediately thought, “Well, his name is Solo!” It found out that he had been addressed as such by his foster father. It was destiny, I knew. I knew he was going to stay with me forever and in spite of everything when I first met him and saw how depressed he was.
When Solo first entered his new permanent home, he was rather afraid. After living his entire life on the streets, it was logical that he felt distrustful of other people.
When he first moved in with her, according to Messina, he “put his tail between his legs” for months. He was very non-reactive to dogs, people, and cats and cringed anytime someone tried to pet him. I rapidly learned that his hearing and teeth were far worse than his foster parents had thought.
Solo’s severe teeth decay and near-deafness were unknown to the rescue team or his foster parents because of his advanced age and poor health.
He was pretty frightened around them and when he was handled because he couldn’t hear people approaching. Additionally, he was unable to feel any excitement due to his tooth soreness. But once his teeth had recovered, Solo underwent a dramatic shift.
Now that he has found new dog buddies, Solo enjoys playing and racing about. He looked to be more happier now that he seems to have accepted that this is how his life is now and that it would always be.
Our neighbors often remark that he doesn’t even look like the same dog anymore, says Messina. Months had passed since he had grinned or even opened his mouth to pant, but today he rolls about and races across the grass at full speed a dozen times a day.
Messina remarked, “I’m pretty proud of his development.” Since it was the finest thing I have ever done for my life, he has motivated me to foster other older dogs that require hospice care.
I’m pretty proud of his improvement, Messina said. He has inspired me to take in other senior dogs that need hospice care since it was the best thing I have ever done for my life.
