Sadly, despite the fact that they have successfully brought together numerous dogs and humans, microchips are not frequently examined right away. Harley the Pit Bull was lost for eight years despite having a working microchip. His family was heartbroken, but they never gave up hope that their faithful canine would return home at some point.

8 years since last seen

In February 2014, Betsy Dehaan permitted her dogs to relieve themselves outside at her Florida home. She glanced away for a moment, and when she looked back, Harley was gone, running into the nearby woods. Harley was just a few years old when Dehaan prayed someone would find the little puppy and scan his microchip.

“We searched, and we posted posters about missing animals. Dehaan continued, “We never gave up looking.”

Sadly, no sightings were recorded for a long time. The eight years that Harley was gone did not stop his family from missing him. One morning, Dehaan was thinking about Harley and extolling his virtues when she got an unexpected call. The news that Dehaan’s dog had been located and was currently at Lee

County Domestic Animal Services was sent to her through text message. At first, Dehaan thought it was a joke.

A Wonderful Surprise

But that wasn’t a trick. The dog at the Florida animal shelter was named Harley. Angie Bray found the dog, who was extremely underweight, and brought it to Cypress Lake Animal Hospital. The scan of Harley’s microchip showed Dehaan’s number.

“I burst into tears. It was really dreadful, said Bray, to think of being separated from my animals and unable to find them.

Dehann moved from Florida to Missouri when Harley vanished, but she didn’t let that stop her. Before she ever saw him after traveling more than a thousand miles to pick him up, she began to cry.

Harley’s tail was wagging wildly and he showered his mother with kisses as a service member took him for a walk beside his mother. Even though he is considerably older than when Dehaan last saw him, he still has enough of love to share.
