The Bagged Chevy C10, Where One Owner’s Touch Adds to Its Charismatic Exterior- Embracing Patina Perfection


The Chevrolet C10 is a classic pickup truck, and one of the most popular classic trucks available on the market. The C10 looks amazing when immaculately restored, however, there are people out there who like to give them a “patina” finish, or a more rustic and worn look. The Rustomod YouTube channel is checking out this custom C10 by Vetz Garage which is a one-owner pickup truck in a stunning patina.

The pickup truck retains those classic Chevrolet C10 lines but looks like it has been hiding away in a barn for many years. But this is a deliberate finish that creates a real, hard-working-looking pickup truck that even has air suspension and some other mods.

The Chevrolet C10 Had Lots Of Custom Work Done To It

The owner, Brandon, works for Vetz Garage, and they did the work on this 1967 C10 pickup truck, which is his personal truck. He says in the video that it belonged to just one owner before him, and it was highly original including its numbers matching engine. Remarkably, this nearly 60-year-old truck had just 16,000 miles on the clock when he got his hands on it. But despite its good condition, it underwent a complete frame-off restoration with a lot of new components to refresh the pickup.

This included an all-new interior that matches up with the Patina exterior of the C10. If you do like what you see, Brandon says the truck is for sale, so you can get in touch with the garage should you wish to get your hands on it. The suspension is one area that had a lot of work, with Vetz Garage using a Velaworks suspension kit on the truck. It is the full kit, including the air slam. Despite those changes, Brandon has kept the original 283 ci small block under the hood, and with such low mileage, the engine was practically brand new.

The truck also came with its original title and documentation, meaning tracing its service record was very easy. Inside, the truck now has all-new carpet while Brandon also undertook a lot of rust repairs. The seat frame is original, but it had new upholstery, a small 15-inch steering wheel and a Bluetooth stereo system. The gauges and cluster retain that classic 1960s design and the aesthetic of the interior is again a Patina, like the exterior design. One other change that Brandon made was to cut the bed down. This C10 was originally a long-bed truck, but he decided to shrink it a little.

The Frame Of The C10 Pickup Truck Was Shortened

To shorten the bed, the frame of the truck also needed shortening and 12 inches was duly taken out. When it came to the bed, he decided to cut around it to bring it down to length, while retaining the original panels for both the bed itself and the rear of the truck. This was seamlessly done and with due care to make sure it looked as original as possible. The wheel wells are also original, and Brandon didn’t have to do any work to those to accommodate the truck’s new wheels.

The back of the truck still has the original Chevrolet lettering across the tailgate, complete with rust and faded blue to complete that Patina look. While there are a lot of changes to the C10 suspension, Vetz Garage was able to keep the original trailing arms except for new cross members for the front of them. The changes to the suspension of the truck are obvious thanks to how low it now sits to the ground. Brandon also retained the stock rear-end, in an attempt to keep as much of the original soul of the C10 as possible.

There is however, now a Chevrolet Blazer gas tank on the truck for two good reasons. One, it is a side fill up which makes life easier, but two, it also holds an extra 2–3 gallons over the C10 gas tank. Moving the tank also freed up room for Brandon to put a subwoofer and the stereo system behind the seats for the audio setup. While it might look a little cramped inside the truck, there is still plenty of space for someone like Brandon, who says he can comfortably drive it despite being over 6 ft in height.

The gas cap is actually hiding in the rear taillight which is a cool feature and helps keep the exterior as clean as possible. The finish of the truck is exemplary, with it sporting a blue paint scheme with that rusty, Patina shining through along the truck. Especially at the front and around the grille area. Some restomods of trucks like this can often go over the top, but this C10 is very tasteful. If Brandon can’t sell the truck, he plans to do a bit more work on it such as add in a three-speed automatic transmission and equip it with air conditioning.

The Chevrolet C10 is one of the most recognizable pickup trucks made in North America. Production first began in 1970, with it continuing through various generations right up until 2002. The C10 was part of the C/K series and it was a half-ton, two-wheel drive pickup truck that had its own production run of 42 years. Four generations spanned its lifetime, and it would continuously evolve with all of those generations.

The C10 was one of the first pickup trucks to introduce V8 power to the segment. From 1960 to 1964, the C10 was only available with a six-cylinder engine under the hood. Except for the 283 small block V8 that the Patina truck has. But in 1965, Chevrolet brought in V8 power and air conditioning as optional extras for its popular pickup. This however was a much bigger V8 engine, the 327 ci V8 that had 220 hp. The C10 would eventually evolve into the Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck in 2002, a very different beast compared to what the truck had started out as in the early 1960s.
