Unleash the Beast: The 383-Powered 1970 Chevrolet Nova Coupe Revival
This 1970 Chevrolet Nova coupe rolled off the assembly line at GM’s Willow Run, Michigan facility and found its current owner in 2020. Previous owners had already swapped out the engine, given it a fresh coat of red paint, and changed the interior color. Under the hood, you’ll find a 383ci V8 engine mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end.
Notable features include front disc brakes, exhaust headers, Flowmaster mufflers, stylish Foose 17″ wheels, a sleek black vinyl interior, and a cooling breath of air conditioning. In 2022, it underwent maintenance with a water pump replacement and a new set of tires. This customized Nova is now available for sale on behalf of its current owner, complete with the manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Washington title registered in their name.
Finished from the factory in Cranberry Red (75), the car was repainted approximately ten years ago during prior ownership according to the seller, and it is accented with chrome bumpers, side fender vents, and SS-style badging. Additional equipment includes an aftermarket cowl hood, black-accented side moldings, and dual side mirrors.
Staggered-width 17″ Foose wheels feature a polished finish and are fitted with Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires that were mounted in March 2022 and measure 235/45 on the front and 255/45 at the rear. The car is equipped with cross-drilled front disc brakes and rear drums. The suspension has been modified with front coil spring spacers.
Black vinyl upholstery and trim are fitted in place of the factory Medium Sandalwood materials and are accompanied by contrasting red floor mats. Features include air conditioning, manually-operated windows, and a floor-mounted console housing the T-handle shifter.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a horizontal 120-mph speedometer along with a fuel gauge and ventilation controls. A trio of AutoMeter auxiliary gauges are mounted at the base of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 13k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 350ci Chevrolet V8 has been bored and stroked to a displacement of 383ci, and features are said to include four-bolt main bearings, Eagle rotating assembly components with an 11.1 compression ratio, and RHS aluminum cylinder heads. Other additions include an Edelbrock carburetor, an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold, and Jet-Hot-coated headers linked to a dual exhaust system equipped with Flowmaster mufflers. Service in 2022 included an oil change, installation of an aluminum water pump, and replacement of the upper radiator hose and drive belt.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end with 3.55:1 gearing.
