Woman Captures What Her Cat Does When Left Home Alone

Modern technology has certainly brought us many wonders, but one of the coolest perks is being able to see what our pets do when we’re not around. Most pet owners have wondered what their furry friends get up to while they’re at work or running errands. Do they spend the day napping, or is it more like a scene from a cartoon where they get into all sorts of mischief?

Thanks to home security cameras, we can now answer these questions with a quick peek into their day.

That’s exactly what happened to Ida Myrin, a cat mom who came across videos online showing what pets do when left home alone. She decided to try it out with her own beloved cat, Isola, to see what he would do when left on his own with a camera recording.

Isola is a three-year-old cat who seems to believe he’s human. When his owners left one day, Isola assumed he was going with them. In fact, he even went to grab his leash, as if expecting to tag along. He loves being included in everything his humans do.

The saddest moment comes when Isola, excitedly holding his leash by the door, realizes that his owners have left without him. The look of disappointment on his face is enough to tug at anyone’s heartstrings.

Isola, still holding his leash, meowed and wandered around the house, looking for his humans. Eventually, he seemed to understand that they were really gone, so he sat quietly by the front door, waiting patiently for their return. If we were in Ida’s shoes, it would be impossible to leave him again after seeing that footage!

Ida has raised Isola since he was a kitten, and she shared some insights about his personality with Bored Panda. She said, “He is kinda spoiled and lazy, but also loving. He always demands our attention and yells every time he doesn’t get it. He’s always moving so that he can see us both, he loves a good cuddle, but hates faces. When he was a kitten, he often stopped what he was doing to randomly hit the floor instead and he has NO ball control. We also think that he is a bit claustrophobic. He loves feet. LOVES.”

So, what’s the solution for Isola’s loneliness? The obvious answer might be to get him a companion—another cat to keep him company when his humans aren’t around.

Interestingly, when Ida shared the story on Reddit, many people suggested exactly that. But Ida explained that she already has another cat! The reason she had left that day was to take the other cat to the vet, which is probably why Isola thought he was going along for the trip. No wonder Isola was confused and a little hurt. After all, it must have felt like a family outing that he wasn’t invited to.

Unlike humans, who have plenty of ways to keep themselves entertained, pets often rely on us for their daily dose of excitement. Even the most independent-seeming cats are likely secretly waiting for their owners to come home.

The National Park Service has a plan to potentially euthanize up to 170 feral cats under the guise of nuisance control. Demand a policy that protects these cats!

When Ida finally returned home, Isola was not happy. But rather than being mad at Ida, he was more interested in sniffing the other cat, who now smelled like the vet.

“He didn’t even come to say hi (like he usually ALWAYS does), but went straight to the other cat to smell him,” Ida explained.

It’s safe to say that while pets may seem like they’re fine on their own, they definitely notice when their humans leave, and in Isola’s case, they might even expect to come along for the ride.
