Medically challenged or disabled dogs often face difficulties, and owners unwilling to provide the necessary care sometimes resort to euthanasia or abandonment. However, every dog deserves the chance to live and be loved, as long as they are not suffering. One such disabled dog was given a second opportunity and is now thriving as the “happiest dog in the world.”

A dog missing part of its brain received the magical love of a woman named Jennifer Osborne

In 2016, a woman named Jennifer Osborne came across Moose, a dog with a fixed smile and large underbite, at a pet store. She soon learned that Moose’s distinctive features were due to a congenital brain abnormality – he was missing parts of his brain. Jennifer discovered that Moose’s nose had been pushed into his skull while still in the womb, leading to his underbite, crooked nose, misshapen skull, distorted brain, and eye issues.

Instantly falling in love with Moose, Jennifer was concerned he would be euthanized due to his health problems if he ended up in the wrong hands. She decided to adopt him herself, knowing the road ahead would not be easy. Moose’s seizures, which “affect the body and brain, leaving him foaming at the mouth and his whole body twitching,” required a lot of Jennifer’s attention and care.

An MRI revealed the full extent of Moose’s medical issues – he was missing parts of his brain, had a cyst where his sinuses and forehead should have been, and lacked a forehead or sinuses. Despite this, his neurologist explained that the rest of his brain was in good shape, as the front portion was simply compressed. This condition is unique to dogs.

While Moose would have seizures for the rest of his life, they could be managed with medication without shortening his lifespan. Jennifer was determined to give Moose the love and care he deserved, embracing the challenges ahead.

Moose has proven to be a blessing in Jennifer’s life, and she describes him as an upbeat and active dog despite his medical struggles. “We’re so lucky Moose survived, given everything that’s happened to him,” she said. “In every way, he is a marvel.”

Moose’s infectious joy and constant smile reflect his appreciation for each day. Jennifer is grateful to have him as her companion, stating, “He’s fantastic and a blessing in my life. I’m glad he’s my dog because he’s the happiest dog I’ve ever met.”
