Meet Winston, an adorable pit bull who embodies the saying, “you are who you spend your time with.” From a young age, Winston was surrounded by cats after being adopted by his owner, Beth Clark. Beth, who fosters and rescues cats, introduced Winston to a feline-filled home when he was just a puppy.
“From the start, Winston was part of a group of six cats,” Beth shared. “They all formed a loving bond together.” Growing up with so many cats, Winston naturally picked up some of their traits. Without much interaction with other dogs, he started behaving more like his feline companions. Beth shared a TikTok video of Winston that left many viewers astonished. The video showcased Winston doing something quite unusual for a dog: he was purring!
In the video, Beth captioned, “Winston was raised with cats… so now he purrs when you pet him.” Throughout the video, Winston emits a loud purring sound, clearly enjoying the affection and looking completely relaxed.
Purring is typically associated with cats, a soft, buzzing sound with a frequency of around 25 Hz. While cats usually purr when they are happy and content, they also purr for other reasons such as communication, self-soothing, or healing. Cats might purr when they are in pain or stressed, and experts believe purring is both a voluntary and instinctive behavior. Kittens, for instance, purr to let their mothers know where they are and to encourage feeding. As they grow, the reasons for purring evolve.
Beth first noticed Winston’s purring when he was about four months old. “At first, it caught me off guard,” Beth admitted. “But I quickly realized it was his way of expressing contentment, something he learned from his cat siblings.” The video of Winston purring has since amassed nearly 300,000 likes and over 3,800 comments. People were both charmed and intrigued by his cat-like behavior.
But that’s not all—Winston also responds to calls just like a cat! In another video, Beth calls Winston with the classic “ps ps ps” sound. Winston immediately looks at her and jumps off the couch to come to her. Despite his large size, Winston has the heart of a gentle kitty.
