The dog in the story is a homeless German Shepherd named Rain, who was found hiding under a van for days. The rain clung to the wall behind the vehicle in fear, shaking uncontrollably every time someone got close.
The neighborhood alerted animal welfare group Hope For Paws about Rain’s behavior. Some paramedics soon arrived at the scene to help Rain. Rescuer Loreta was the first to arrive at Rain with a cheeseburger. But Rain, with her terrified body language and piercing moans, dismissed the rescuer completely.
Distraught, the rescue team heard Rain’s blood-curdling “human” screams as she began to run away from them. It was hard to imagine the kind of abuse she had endured that made her express her raw fear so vehemently. He was scared and he expressed it in a way that paramedics had never heard before in his life.
Rain hid under the vehicle and prayed that the emergency services would leave. He then slid into an unpleasant space to put more distance between himself and the rescuers. However, the rescue team sealed off the perimeter with a net, while Loreta brought Rain in with a light trap.
Even after being rescued, Rain’s blood-curdling human screams and anguished expressions did not stop. Paramedics rushed to put him in a box and take him to the hospital for a checkup. Fortunately, Rain gradually sensed the good intentions of her rescuers and noticeably calmed down while bathing.
Rain’s mental recovery after being rescued was amazing! He became so loving and cuddly in his foster home that he found a permanent family within 2 weeks of being rescued. She is now called “Sassy Pants Dunbar”, an epic name that matches her goofy personality. She spends her days hanging out with her doggy little brother and asking for endless tummy rubs from her humans! After being rescued, he made a full recovery and we are so happy for him!
